While the members of the Roslyn High School Girls Basketball Team for the 2023 - 2024 season will likely don modern sportswear for their yearbook photo, 100 years ago, the girls of the 1923 - 1924 season wore very different attire:
Inspired by the vastly popular sailor suit look, these 1920s-era uniforms include voluminous bloomers that would look decidedly formal on today's basketball courts. Though similar in style, the girls' shirts are not all the same. This suggests that they were homemade/self-supplied. The one modern touch is the pullover sweatshirt worn by the girl in the back row to the left.
Unfortunately, the names of these ladies are lost to time, as is the case with many vintage photographs. While our Roslyn High School yearbook collection is expansive, our oldest annual is from 1927. Still, we cherish these unknown snapshots of the past and hope you will enjoy them as well!
